Wondering about the best lawn care for Sydney and NSW? With seasonal conditions varying from hot and humid to wet and cold here are some simple guides.

Obviously your lawn care will depend on which grass you have – Buffalo, Zoysia, Couch and Kikuyu.

Buffalo Lawn Care for Sydney Climate

Mowing

Maintenance mowing of your Buffalo lawn – cut to 2cm-5cm in sun or light shade, or 5cm-7cm in heavier shade.

Mow your Buffalo turf every 5-10 days in warmer months, and every 3-6 weeks in colder months.

Fertilising

Buffalo lawn needs to be fed with fertiliser to remain strong and healthy.

Use a complete fertiliser in early April (Autumn) and early September (early Spring) and if you need a quick green-up use a fertiliser high in nitrogen to promote a lush green lawn.

Watering

Buffalo is drought tolerant once established – but, like all plants, needs water. Requirements will vary depending on environmental factors.

Be aware of a drying climate and water your Buffalo lawn accordingly.

Remember, infrequent deep watering of your Buffalo lawn promotes a healthy lawn and a strong deep-rooted system. Watering time is best in the early morning.

Laying

In NSW Buffalo grass can be installed at any time but note that during winter it will take longer to establish due to the cooler soil.
